There are 4 common skin types: normal, dry, oily, and combination. Knowing your skin type makes it easier for you to choose the right skincare product for your skin and to give your skin the nutrition it needs.
Skin type is usually hereditary. But, there are several habits which might change your skin type overtime. Every skin type has its own characteristics and needs different ways of caring. Let's find out your skin type from the information below!

Dry Skin Type

The dry skin’s texture is also flaky or scaly, you can even see the dry patch on the skin when you scratch them. Fyi, everyone can have dry skin, even when they really have oily skin type or combination type. Not only on the face, we can have dry skin on any parts of the body like hand, feet, and even arm. 

Characteristic:

  • Skin looks rough, patchy, and flaky
  • You have pores but almost invisible
  • Instead of feeling fresh, you might feel tight and dry after washing your face
  • The wrinkles and fine lines are visible

Do’s

  • Use products that suitable for dry skin only
  • Never skip moisturizing step on your skin care routine at night before bed

Oily Skin Type

Oily skin mostly happen because of genetic factors because we have more active oil glands that would produce more oil because the skin thought it was dry and need more oil to help moisture the skin. We really can tell whether if someone has an oily skin condition, from the dewy or shiny looks on their skin.

 

Characteristic:

  • Our pores are visible and big
  • Dewy face happen during the day and we look super shiny
  • Can’t get away from acne problems. Especially blackhead and whitehead
  • Our makeup can easily cracks

What Causes Oily Skin

  • Hormonal changes
  • Medication
  • Stressful situation
  • Using comedogenic cosmetics

Dos and Dont's

Do’s 

  • Use apple cider vinegar to help exfoliate dead skin cell so it won’t clogged pores
  • Moisturize your skin before bed 
  • Use non-comedogenic makeup 
  • Wash your face twice a day to help clean pores from oil 

 

Don’t’s

  • Touch your face often with your hand
  • Use the same pillow case for a long time

Normal Skin Type

Well, you have a normal skin type when you never describe your skin’s condition by ‘really dry’ or ‘very oily’ when people ask you, even when it fact it looks a bit dry and oily. Normal skin type doesn’t usually mean a perfect skin type; you do have some skin concerns but it doesn’t happen very often. When you have a normal skin type, avoid using products that can make your skin looks dry and oily.

  • You have visible, small-sized pores
  • The oil and sebum amount on your T-Zone is perfectly balanced with other area
  • Doesn’t have acne problems too often
  • The texture of your skin is smooth and soft

Do’s

  • Never skip moisturizer in your skin routine
  • Sleep regularly to hydrate your skin
  • Use alcohol-free toner for your skin
  • Exfoliate regularly to remove dead cell from the skin

  • Use creamy products that can make your skin feels greasy
  • Clean your face very often 
  • Take a long hot shower every time you shower, as it can strip natural moisturizer from your skin

Combination Skin Type

If you have combination skin type, it means that you have more than one type of skin on your face and it’s usually dry and oily. We can identify the combination skin type on your skin with some part of it being oily, while the other part is dry. 

 

Characteristic:

  • Dry around the eyes
  • Visible blackhead and white head
  • Oily only in T-Zone areas, while dry in the cheek area
  • Visible pores in small sizes

  • Use moisturizer in the dry area of the skin
  • Always pick cleanser that gentle in the dry area and strong in the T-Zone area

Don’ts:

  • Skipped on the moisturizing part in your skin care-routine
  • Use one kind of cleanser for every area of the face
